I met Alana and her family through a model call. I have been wanting to photograph a ballerina for quite some time and the opportunity never presented itself. However, this summer I decided to reach out and find one, and I'm so glad I did! Enter Alana, at only 14 years old has accomplished so much. She has found her passion and undergoes a rigid schedule of practicing 7 days a week at her studio to dance competitively:

"It's a big commitment that I love but I sacrifice missing events such as school activities/clubs, parties and going out with school friends/family. But, I wouldn't change it for the world because my competition teammates are like my family and I couldn't imagine my life without them."

She hopes to attend college in California and wishes to continue dance and welcomes all of the experiences and opportunities it will bring including traveling the world.

Dancing helps me to express what I was feeling inside. It makes my emotions come out as expressive sentences of movements in different forms. Soon my sentences will turn into vivid paragraphs which makes a whole dance as a story to tell.

On my hardest days of dance what pushes me through is knowing that I will improve and grow as a dancer the most. When things are difficult and challenging for me in my mind, I picture a better dancer which pushes me through the day and makes me feel stronger. I know that hard work will pay off.

Thank you for sharing your story with me.
